Tip #2 - Create a Mint.com Account and See Your Numbers

Good morning!

Grab your latte and enjoy.

This is tip #2 of nine tips I’m sharing over the next nine weeks. I hope you find something useful!

I like numbers - more specifically money numbers.

With numbers and data, I can bring awareness to my financial habits, decide if I’m focusing my dollars on the right priorities, and see if I’m on track for my FI Dream.

BTW, my FI Dream is Coast FI and I’m down to 2 years and 9 months…but who’s counting?!

While I do enjoy numbers, I like to keep my finances simple and not spend a lot of time updating spreadsheets or tracking every penny. It’s not a good use of my time now that my habits are more rigorously formed.

My solution is Mint.com.

TIP #2 - Create a Mint.com account and see your numbers.

If you do NOTHING else, you will at least have data for reviewing next month - and that will give you information on how you treat your money.

If you want to take this a bit further, you could create a basic budget in Mint on what you “think” you spend. At the end of the month, you can see how close (or how extremely, extremely far) you are from your expectations.

Then the fun starts - with adjusting numbers, goals, and priorities. Gamify the chase to your FI Dream.

Fun, right? More than just to number-geeks like me? Maybe?

In the next 30 minutes…

Go to the link Mint.com and sign-up.

Next link your checking, savings, credit cards, debts, and investment accounts.

Pause.

Decide if you want to go further with a “guesstimate” budget, or stop until the end of the month.

Regardless, set a reminder on your calendar for the first week of the month to review the numbers.

Any trends? Any surprises?

And let the games begin!!
